Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sign-up for a course if I live outside the UK?
We encourage and welcome all International students. All our courses are specifically designed to be delivered across the internet and coursework can be accessed from your own computer so there is no requirement to attend any classes and you are free to study when and where you wish.

Do I need any qualifications or law enforcement experience to enrol?
In most cases, the only requirement for enrolment is that you can read and write in English and that you have access to, and can use, a suitable computer attached to the Internet.  There are not usually any other entry requirements. However, only the serious minded need apply.  Please note that from time-to-time, access to some courses may be restricted  to serving [or sworn] law enforcement personnel - these courses will be clearly marked in the course descriptions. We also reserve the right to withhold, or withdraw, access to any course at our sole discretion.

Why are your fees so much lower than other training companies?
Our course fees have been heavily reduced for a promotional period. Additionally, we don’t have many of the expensive overheads that larger traditional classroom training companies have. For example, we don’t pay for advertising,  we don’t employ sales personnel and because we use the internet to disseminate our material we don’t have the burden of classrooms, travel, subsistence and other associated costs to bear and so we are able to pass these substantial savings on to you.

Will I receive a certificate?
If you complete and pass a course then you will receive a diploma certificate .  We provide our own qualifications for courses which are produced by us, however, when courses are run for third party institutions the qualification is provided by that institution. If you complete a course but do not achieve a pass then you will receive a certificate to confirm your participation in the course.   On the successful completion of your course you will be awarded a Diploma from Crime & Intelligence Analysis Training Ltd. To qualify for your Diploma you must obtain a mark of 50%. If your mark is 66% to 75% a Diploma with Credit is awarded and a mark over 75% qualifies you for a Diploma with Distinction.

How does your e-Learning system work?
Firstly, you must sign-up for a course and we will confirm your registration by email.

You will then be directed to our secure payment area and once your payment has cleared, you will receive your personal enrolment details for the course you selected and you will also receive contact details for your personal tutor.

Your course will be presented in topic format. Each topic contains a variety of material including web pages containing text, images, multimedia presentations/lectures,  links to other resources, reading lists, practical exercises and a glossary etc.

As you work through your course you will be presented with a number of 'test yourself' knowledge checks (usually at the end of a chapter). These contain a mix of multiple-choice, true or false, single word answer, single paragraph or a short written answer questions. Whatever the question type you can rest assured that you will be able to successfully answer using the material you have covered during the course.

This continual assessment method ensures that you and your personal tutor can consistently monitor your progress and it also allows us to provide you with any necessary assistance and feedback throughout the course. There is no requirement for you to attend any ‘test centres’ or 'classrooms' as all the knowledge checks and assessments are carried out at your chosen location – over the internet.

At the end of your course you will be presented with an assessment task which you are required to complete. Your personal tutor will mark your assessment and return it to you with a feedback report. A record of your personal achievement is maintained automatically by our Managed Learning Environment which records course access, the scores you achieve and final marks for any practical exercise or assessed assignment.

If you successfully complete and pass a course then you will receive a diploma certificate which you can either print locally or request to be posted to you. Your certificate will contain our organisation details, the date of the course, the name of the course, content covered in the course and the marks you achieved.

If you fail to pass a course but you have completed it then you will receive a course participation certificate confirming your participation along with a report showing the areas you need to work on in order to achieve a pass mark. If you wish to retake a course you have not passed then the fee is 50% of the original course fee.

Is help available?
We do not provide face-to-face support for any of our online courses. However, when you sign-up for any courses you will be supplied with access to your personal tutor who is available to assist  you and you  will also be able to use our online LiveChat! facility to discuss any issues you may have.  LiveChat! is available from our home page and the main elearning site.

If you experience any technical problems then you should contact our technical department at tech@crimeanalysistraining.com - but please note that we do not offer general computer assistance and cannot help you with queries relating to your internet service which you should direct to your Internet Service Provider.

What if I forget my login details?
If you forget your Student ID or password then these can both be retrieved automatically by visiting www.elearning.ciaot.com and following the onscreen instructions at the logon prompt - your details and a new password will be emailed to you.

I haven’t studied for many years – will I be able to finish the course?
Our courses have been written and structured specifically for e-Learning study and are designed to be user friendly. When you enrol on a course for the first time we will send you a link to our ‘Online Study Guide’ which includes information and tips on distance learning - and don't forget that e-Learning means you can study at your speed.

The difficulty of an individual course is dependant upon the level of the course – we strongly recommend that you examine the overview of the course carefully. If a course description contains words like ‘Basic’ or ‘Introductory’ or ‘Overview’ then the course is likely to be suitable for all knowledge levels including beginners.  However, courses with descriptions which contain words like ‘Intermediate’ or ‘Advanced’ or ‘Master’ are usually only suitable for those who have mastered basic or intermediate skill levels in that subject.  If you require help in selecting the level you should study then please don't hesitate top contact our student support team. They can be contact by email here or via the LiveChat! option on our home page.

How do I choose the right course for me?
You should examine a course outline carefully and if you need any further details or any help in deciding which course is the right one for you then simply contact our friendly course advisors here for help.

Do courses have a time limit?
Students are expected to complete courses within a set period of time (usually 28 days). If you find that you are unable to complete your course in the allotted time then it is important that you make contact with your tutor as soon as possible so that consideration can be given to suspending the course until you are in a position to complete it.

If you fail to complete a course within the allotted time and fail to negotiate an extension then you may be required to sign up for the course again. There is a charge of 50% of the course fee if you retake a course.

When do courses start?
There are no set dates for any of our courses and our e-Learning courses allows for continuous enrolment so you may enrol or sign-up at any time during the year.

How long do courses take to complete?
Course durations vary from student to student and from course to course. How long a course takes an individual is dependant upon all sorts of factors, but you will find an estimate of the course duration within each course description – these can be found on our course list page.

What other costs are there?
There are no further costs once a course has been paid for – even your certificate is included in the price.

How do  I get access to my course?
Course access is a 4 step process:

    1) Registration - register by completing the Online Registration Form. All fields need to be completed. You will receive an auto-reply confirming receipt.
    2) Enrolment - we will email you when your course is available for you to enrol upon.
    3) Payment - you will be required to pay your course fees before you can access a course.
    4) Access -  accepted students receive an enrolment key by email after payment. Access is not available if a course is full or in development.

Can I pay by instalments?
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer an instalment plan, financial support or any further reduction on price.

Can I make contact with other students?
Usually, yes. On enrolment you may be given access to a student forum. This forum is where students may share thoughts and information. Tutors also use these forums.
